The Hialeah Campus is adding a new four-floor building and a five-story parking garage, according to Ana Mar\u00eda Bradley-Hess, Dean of Academic and Student Affairs at the campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

The construction is slated to be completed by spring of 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not only talking about creating a new building and a new parking garage but transforming the campus and the community,\u201d Bradley-Hess said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The four-floor building, which will be located west of the main building, will have additional classroom space, including the campuses first-ever \u00a0Biology and Chemistry labs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new parking garage will house a community meeting room and art gallery on the first floor and add more than 1,000 parking spaces to the campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bradley-Hess said the remodeling will \u00a0open up the campus providing \u00a0more green space for the campuses 17,000 students.<\/span><\/p>\n

A feature of the new remodeling will be a new staircase that will sit between the main building and \u00a0new building leading up toward a center area \u00a0that will be known as the Student Commons. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Transformations like this don’t come without setbacks. Since the start of the spring semester, students, faculty and staff have not been allowed to park on campus because of the ongoing construction. Parking is provided at the Westland Mall and at El Dorado furniture store. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The College provides a shuttle that transports \u00a0students, staff and faculty to the parking. The shuttles \u00a0run in 10-to-15 minute intervals.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt the moment it\u2019s a big inconvenience,\u201d said Nicolas Brea a computer information\u2019s system major. \u201cWe have to cross a huge intersection and the buses they have take too long. \u00a0It\u2019s a pretty big inconvenience but I\u2019m glad we\u2019ll have plenty of parking spaces when it\u2019s completed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
