{"id":5539,"date":"2016-04-18T11:26:59","date_gmt":"2016-04-18T15:26:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mdcthereporter.com\/?p=5539"},"modified":"2021-05-24T16:34:05","modified_gmt":"2021-05-24T20:34:05","slug":"susan-summons-honored-with-victory-club-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/susan-summons-honored-with-victory-club-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Summons Honored With Victory Club Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami Dade College\u2019s head womens basketball coach, Susan Summons, was honored with the 2016 Victory Club award from the <a href=\"https:\/\/wbca.org\/\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Women\u2019s Basketball Coaches Association<\/span><\/a> (WBCA) last month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Summons, who has \u00a0been at MDC for 30 years, was given the honor after earning her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdcthereporter.com\/summons-gets-her-500th-coaching-victory\/\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">500th career win<\/span><\/a> this past December.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 500 win milestone came on Dec. 12, 2015 during a 101-64 home victory versus Clinton Junior College.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Summons said the award is another highlight that reminds her that hard work brings good rewards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI am always humbled to be recognized by my peers, colleagues, fellow coaches and a national organization like the WBCA,\u201d she said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Summons \u00a0started her coaching career in 1982 at Roxbury Community College in Boston, where she had previously starred as a point guard. Summons stayed at Roxbury until 1986, when she accepted the head coaching job at MDC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Helping student athletes reach success on the court and in the classroom has always been her top goal. Summons said her favorite moments have been \u201cseeing over 300 student-athletes march across the stage at MDC graduation to receive their A.A. degree and go on to a top D1 university in the nation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lady Sharks finished with an 18-12 record this past season. \u00a0They averaged 80.7 points per game, in what Summons called a \u201ctremendous year with a great group of people.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Summons said she looks forward to next season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur number one expectation is to win a State Championship and go on to the Nationals,\u201d Summons said.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Miami Dade College\u2019s head womens basketball coach, Susan Summons, was honored with the 2016 Victory Club award from the Women\u2019s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) last month.
