{"id":5931,"date":"2012-04-24T14:23:18","date_gmt":"2012-04-24T18:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mdcthereporter.com\/?p=5931"},"modified":"2016-04-22T14:23:38","modified_gmt":"2016-04-22T18:23:38","slug":"school-of-justice-to-train-st-maarten-police-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mdcthereporter.com\/staging\/8357\/school-of-justice-to-train-st-maarten-police-officers\/","title":{"rendered":"School Of Justice To Train St. Maarten Police Officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Miami Dade College\u2019s School of Justice will be mentoring police officers on the island of St. Maarten this summer.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hector Garcia, Director of School of Justice, the aim of the mentorship program is to improve their community policing.<\/p>\n<p>On April 12, Saint Maarten officials visited North Campus to make final arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour policing tactics are perfect for our country,\u201d said Irene Simmons, St. Maarten\u2019s Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Justice. \u201cWe are trying to improve our law enforcement agencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>St. Maarten\u2019s police commissioner Carl John, as well as well as Arie Broedere, a police adviser from the Netherlands, were in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>According to Garcia, the program consists of two parts.<\/p>\n<p>Two MDC instructors will train and mentor ten St. Maarten officers on the island. After the training, the officers will be placed as interns at a police department within Miami-Dade County.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really excited to see our officers get great training from people at MDC,\u201d John said.\u00a0 \u201cOur country has many similarities to Miami and I know it is going to be great.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Miami Dade College\u2019s School of Justice will be mentoring police officers on the island of St. Maarten this summer.
