The Honors College at Miami Dade College has a new chief.<\/p>\n
Pascale Charlot was appointed to the position after Alexandria Holloway retired in late August.
\nMost recently, Charlot was dean of student affairs at New York University School of Law.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that students at Miami Dade can look forward to Dean Charlot being a caring dean who will always have students\u2019 best interests in mind,\u201d said her former colleague at NYU Michelle Adorno, currently the assistant dean for admissions at the University of Florida\u2019s Fredric G. Levin College of Law. \u201cI think students can expect her to continually work to enhance the educational experience at Miami Dade so that it is as rewarding as possible for all students.\u201d<\/p>\n
Charlot earned her bachelor’s in sociology and economics with a certificate in women studies from Duke University and her juris doctorate\u2019s from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was a Dean\u2019s Scholar.<\/p>\n
She then went on to be an assistant district attorney in New York and the manager of a program that sought to develop computer learning centers in more than 100 townships in South Africa.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur mission was to create more computer learning centers that were not only better but more accessible to students,\u201d Charlot said.<\/p>\n
Charlot started her educational administrative career by serving as an associate director of the Public Interest Law Center at NYU School of Law where she advised students who were interested in pursuing public interest opportunities.<\/p>\n
After leaving NYU, she became the assistant dean and director for the Minority Student Program at Rutgers University.<\/p>\n
Shortly after, she returned to NYU\u00a0 to become the dean of student affairs at the school of law.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough my journey, I discovered I was really interested in having an impact in peoples lives sooner,\u201d Charlot said. \u201cThanks to my experience I know what graduate students are looking for and I think my knowledge will definitely be useful for the undergraduate community here at MDC\u2019s Honors College.\u201d<\/p>\n
Charlot is grateful for the foundation Holloway has built at the Honors College.<\/p>\n
Holloway was instrumental in launching the Honors College back in 2002, serving as the college\u2019s dean for the first 10 years. The program\u2019s graduates regularly attend academic juggernauts such as Georgetown University, NYU and Columbia University.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe she will maintain the integrity and international reputation of the college and help it move to greater heights,\u201d Holloway said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
