Not one. Not two. Not three. Not four…but \u00a0for now, five. <\/span><\/p>\n

For the fifth straight year, <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i>, the student newspaper at Miami Dade College has been named the top state college newspaper in Florida.<\/span><\/p>\n

The paper received <\/span>the honor on Oct. 16 in Orlando at the Florida College System Publications Association<\/span><\/a> awards banquet.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>I\u2019m exceptionally proud of the staff,\u201d said Daniela Hurtado, who served as the paper\u2019s Editor-In-Chief last year, and is currently a junior at the University of Florida majoring in telecommunication news. \u201c<\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> is a great place to learn and grow as a journalist. I\u2019m so happy that we came out on top for another year. It makes all the hard work and long hours worth it.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Reporter<\/span><\/i> placed in 15 of 18 individual categories\u2013 including 12 first-place awards and three second place honors<\/span>\u2014at the conference<\/span>. The first place honors were for In-Depth Reporting, Feature Story, Sports Writing, News Photo, Design, Arts Review, Feature Story, Illustration, Editorial Cartoon, Sports Photo, Comic Strip and Humor Column. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s competition was based on newspapers printed during the 2014-15 school year. <\/span>The Reporter<\/span><\/i> accumulated 42 overall points. <\/span>The Reporter,<\/span><\/i> which was established in Oct. 4, 2010 when the College \u00a0merged the school\u2019s three existing student newspapers<\/span>\u2014<\/span>The Falcon Times<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Metropolis<\/span><\/i> and the <\/span>Catalyst<\/span><\/i>\u2014has dominated at the state competition since its inception, winning <\/span>74 awards from the FCSPA in the past five years including 47 first-place honors.<\/span><\/p>\n
