The Reporter Appoints Editor-In-Chief For The 2023-24 School Year

Rising sophomore Nikole Valiente has been selected as editor-in-chief of The Reporter for the 2023-24 academic year.

Valiente is majoring in mass communications/journalism at the Honors College at North Campus. She will start her new role on Aug. 1.

“I’m excited,” Valiente said. “I want to grow as a person and journalist while helping others do the same.”

The 19-year-old Hialeah native will replace Juan S. Gomez, who is transferring to Duke University this fall to study sociology.

During her time at The Reporter, Valiente has written 23 articles. Some of her pieces include a feature on this year’s four Jack Kent Cooke Transfer Scholarship winners and a new program aimed at helping neurodivergent students.

Valiente graduated from City of Hialeah Educational Academy in June of 2022. She aspires to work as a general assignment reporter.
