The Top Five Most Anticipated Films Of 2022

With a successful 2021 turn around, the movie industryDune to Disney’s Encanto and SpiderMan: No Way Homeis selling out in theaters.

2022 has a lot of movies lined up to keep the movie magic going.

Here are my picks for top five most anticipated movies of 2022 that will make you amped to run to the theater:

Avatar 2

James Cameron’s Avatar 2 is being released on Dec. 16. Although it comes out at the end of the year, it has been long-awaited since the first Avatar back in 2009. The movie was delayed because there was a need to develop new technology for underwater motion capture scenes.

In this film, the characters Jake Sully and Ney’tiri have developed a family and are doing all they can to stick together. However, they have to leave their home and explore the widespread regions of Pandora. When an ancient threat resurfaces, Jake must fight a difficult war against the humans to protect his people. Since it has been so long since the previous release I’m looking forward to seeing the new animation techniques and how this sci fi story of Pandora continues to develop.

Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick is another sequel fans of Top Gun are looking forward to. The original movie was released in 1986.

The sequel was supposed to be released in 2019, but they decided to spend more time on it to perfect the aviation scenes and because of the pandemic. Now it is being released on May 27.

Tom Cruise is still starring in the movie, however there are a few twists.

The plot follows the story of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell who continues working even after almost thirty years of service as the Navy’s top aviator. He must soon confront his past while completely training a new squad of graduates for a dangerous mission.

This is a film I will take my dad to watch on Fathers’ Day because he can’t stop raving about Tom Cruise agreeing to appear in the sequel.

Uncharted

Uncharted is a film that was born from the inspiration of a videogame. Many of my friends have played the game and can’t wait to see it play out in a live action format.

This is the soonest release on my list, coming out on Feb. 18. I am also ready to see Tom Holland star in something other than SpiderMan because that is mostly what I associate him with. Another well known actor, Mark Whalberg, is his partner in crime in this film.

The action plot sounds pretty thrilling. Nathan Drake and his partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan embark on an adventurous quest to find the greatest treasure that has never been found while simultaneously tracking clues that may lead the partners to find Nate’s long-lost brother.

The Batman

Now The Batman might be the film I favor the most out of this entire list. My bias comes from the fact that I adore Zoe Kravitz as an actress and I am stoked that she gets to play the infamous role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman. I think it is a perfect fit.

Robert Pattinson, best known for his character as Edward in Twilight, will be the new Batman/Bruce Wayne.

This movie will be released on March 4. The film centers on Batman trying to capture serial killer, The Riddler, as he causes chaos in Gotham City.

There is also a part of the plot that connects the city’s corruption to Bruce Wayne’s family. That puts an interesting twist on this DC comics story and the action assures that the film will be Oscar worthy.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

As a fellow Harry Potter fan, this was a pleasant surprise to me. The release date of this film is April 15.

In the movie, Jude Law, who plays Albus Dumbledore, partners with magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead a team of wizards and witches that attempt to stop the powerful, dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald, who is trying to control the wizarding world with his army.

They soon encounter several old and new beasts as they battle against Grindelwald’s evil legion. This fantasy screenplay from J.K Rowlings gives Harry Potter fans the chance to experience and relive the Wizarding World from Dumbledore’s past during his involvement in the 1930s time of World War II.
