MDC Softball Player Recognized For Academics

Lady Sharks softball outfielder, Megan Garfinkel, has been named into the 2017 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Class, an organization dedicated to recognizing academic excellence among college athletes across the nation. She stands next to former Lady Sharks softball player Erin Sundook, who received the same honor last year.

Aside from her outstanding performance on and off the field, Garfinkel is an active member in her community. Her activities range from feeding the homeless at Saint James Baptist Church, helping special need students at the Atlantis Academy, and participating in Miami Dade College’s Spooky Night for kids event.

Garfinkel believes contributing to her teammates and community off the field is just as important when on the field. Currently a sophomore pursuing an associate’s degree for a major in teaching, she is motivated to continue playing softball and giving back to her community.
