Reporter Alumna Lands Job in Gainesville

Gabrielle Arzola, who served as briefing editor for The Reporter, has landed a job as a multimedia journalist for CBS in Gainesville.

Arzola, 21, started the position on July 5. Her duties include writing, producing, shooting and reporting.

“I really want to learn,” Arzola said. “I really want to cut my teeth and really just learn everything there is about the business.”

Last year, Arzola interned at WPLG Channel 10 for Christina Vazquez’s consumer segment and at WFTX Fox 4 in Cape Coral where she was the station’s first intern to go on air.

Arzola graduated from Florida International University with a bachelor’s in broadcast journalism in 2016. At FIU’s student newspaper, she served as a staff writer and had her own food column called Beacon Bits.

In 2014, Arzola got her associate in arts degree from Kendall Campus. While at Miami Dade College, she served as a staff writer at The Reporter during the 2013-14 school year before being promoted to briefing editor in the summer.

“It’s something that I’m really passionate about and it’s something that I’ve been wanting to do ever since I was a kid, so it’s really awesome that it’s finally turning into a reality,” Arzola said.
