Christian Alexander Ortega, who served as editor-in-chief of The Reporter during the 2018-19 school year, has been named a Reporter of the Year finalist by the Associated Collegiate Press in the two-year colleges category.

Winners will be announced on Nov. 1 at the Associated Collegiate Press\College Media Association National College Media Convention in Washington, D.C.

Ortega, who oversaw the news, photo and the sports sections, is currently a junior studying journalism at the University of Florida.

“This is a tremendous honor,” Ortega said. “It’s a testament to the hard work and effort I put forth last year.”

He was selected as a finalist for stories that included a Student Government Association president being robbed at gunpoint, former student Michael Ryan Ruiz that works as a producer on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz and the passing of former baseball coach Demie Mainieri.
