North Campus Student Releases Children’s Book

Melanie Young, a student at North Campus studying early childhood education, has released a children’s book entitled Mella’s Lil Adventure.

The book, which was self-published on Oct. 29, illustrates the story of a mixed race native girl named Mella, who aspires to become a teacher. It explores the idea of persistence and resilience in one’s obstacles.

“[The book] had to be lively and imaginative, while holding the attention of the kids,” Young said.

Young, 25, is currently president of the Abilities Unlimited, Disabled Student Organization and secretary of the Vegan Club at North Campus. She has worked as a part-time clerk in the Student Life department at North Campus for three years.

She graduated with an associate’s degree in exceptional student education from Miami Dade College in 2019, and is currently pursuing an associate in science in early childhood education.
