He Served As Barack Obama’s Inaugural Poet, Now He’s Hosting A Virtual Writing Workshop At MDC

Cuban American poet Richard Blanco, who served as Barack Obama’s inaugural poet in 2013, will present a five-day virtual writing workshop starting July 27 through Crowdcast.

The workshop, Poetry: The Conscious/Subconscious, will teach attendees to use their memories and imagination during the writing process.

Blanco, 52, has authored several poems, memoirs and books. He is the first immigrant, Latino, and openly gay person to be the U.S. inaugural poet.

He has been named a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow and received honorary doctorates from Macalester College, Colby College and the University of Rhode Island.

Cost for the workshop is $400. Attendees will receive a link to the Miami Book Fair workshop once they’ve registered. The workshop will take place July 27-31 from 9:30 a.m. to 11.m.
