New Leaders Take Top Roles At MDC
New presidents at MDC-West, as well as Wolfson and Medical campuses take the reigns this semester. Two join the College from out-of-state. One leader has moved up internally.
On Jan. 4, Mark A. Everett began his position as the new president at Medical Campus. His immediate goal as campus president is to focus on student success and make sure every student has equal opportunities.
“I also want to make sure the students are able to access the appropriate resources to succeed,” Everett said. “Once they’re here, I want to make sure they have the proper tools to succeed no matter what department they’re in.”
Everett most recently served as the Dean of the School of Health and Sciences at the Medical Campus and previously as Chairperson of Health Sciences.
Medical Campus: Mark A. Everett started as the new president of Medical Campus on Jan. 4.
He has held leadership positions in the public and private sectors, such as the Public Health Administrator of the City of El Paso, Texas, County Health and Environmental District; Manager of the Community Health Network of South Texas and Director of Fiscal Management at the University Center for Community Health of the University Health System in San Antonio, Texas. Everett earned a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix and an MBA from the University of Texas, San Antonio.
“I have also spent 20 plus years in healthcare administration, in the nonprofit sector of healthcare within community based programs,” Everett said.
MDC-West: Roger A. Ramsammy started as President at MDC-West on Feb. 1.
Roger A. Ramsammy began his new position as President at MDC-West on Feb. 1. Ramsammy most recently served as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Northern Virginia Community College as well as Dean of Academic Affairs; Associate Dean of Math, Engineering and Science; Biology Department Chair and Professor of Anatomy and Physiology, Biology and Microbiology at Palm Beach State College.
“Included in his educational accomplishments and credentials are graduate research and postdoctoral fellowship at the Molecular Endocrinology Lab at Georgetown University Medical Hospital, Lombardi Cancer Center and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Howard University,” said Eduardo J. Padrón in a letter released from the office of the President of Miami Dade College.
On March 1, Richard A. Soria Jr. will begin his new position at Wolfson Campus. Soria brings many years of experience to the new position, having recently served as the President of the Michigan City Campus of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana. He previously held other leadership positions at the institution, including Vice Chancellor, Dean of the School of Public & Social Services, and Chair of Mortuary Sciences.
Wolfson Campus: Richard A. Soria Jr. will start as Wolfson Campus on March 1.
“I was president of a smaller school, and my role was overseeing a campus of about 1,000 students,” Soria said. “As Wolfson Campus president I am going to increase my workload because I will be working with a 27,000+ student body.”
Soria graduated from Valparaiso University in 2007 and previously graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1995 and earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Calumet College of St. Joseph in 1994. He also holds a Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University of Law.
“My plans are to sit with my cabinet and staff faculty and to get a sense from them of what the goals are for the campus and student life on campus,” Soria said. “I want to get a sense of what they like to see and then how we can move forward and work as a team.”
