Sharks Hire Two New Assistant Men’s Basketball Coaches
Miami Dade College men’s basketball coach Jorge Fernandez has added two new coaches—Adam Braswell and Blake Peterson—to his staff.
The duo replaces Dillon “DJ” Jenkins, who left coaching, and Thomas Roque, who is now the athletic business manager/head boy’s basketball coach at Mater Academy in Hialeah Gardens.
Braswell, 34, will assist with player development, strength and conditioning, recruiting, planning and strategy, scouting, and film study.
Peterson, 37, will work with guards and assist in game planning, help with academics, coordinate travel and assist with practice.

Braswell was a graduate assistant at St. Thomas University last season. He assisted with strength and conditioning, defense strategy and pre-game warmups.
The previous season he served as an assistant coach at Dade Christian School, a private school in Hialeah, and as head coach at Champagnat Catholic School in Hialeah Gardens during the 2021-22 season.
Braswell was a point guard at Morgan State University in Maryland from 2009-2011 and at Florida Memorial University from 2011-2013. He averaged 8.8 points in 26 games as a senior at FMU.
“Being a young coach with not a lot of experience, this opportunity means a lot to me,” Braswell said. “The fact that coach Fernandez trusted me to join the coaching staff and to work with a team with such a rich history means a lot.”
Blake Peterson
For the past four seasons, Peterson served as an assistant coach at Iowa Central Community College.
The Coon Rapids, Minnesota native has spent the bulk of his career as an assistant coach in the midwest, serving stints at Minnesota State University, St. Mary’s University and Bemidji State University.
He spent one season (2017-2018) as the head coach at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. The Spartans were 29-8 under Peterson’s guidance, finishing third in the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Association, Division II.
“This opportunity means everything to me,” Peterson said. “My long term goal is to eventually become a head coach and run a program at a four-year university.”
The Sharks start the regular season at home at the Theodore R. Gibson Health Center, 11011 SW 104th St., on November 1 at 7:30 p.m. versus Miami Sports Academy.
