Kendall Campus Adjunct Professor Lands Position In The Orchestra Now Ensemble

Double bassist Zacherie Small, an adjunct professor in the music department at Kendall Campus, has been selected to The Orchestra Now Ensemble in New York. He will begin his post on Sept. 2.

Small, 33, will perform at Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center.

“It’s a really big deal to me,” Small said. “[It] just shows me that I can actually do this…I’m allowed to reach higher and it’s not going to stop for me.”

His audition consisted of classical pieces by composers such as Giovanni Bottesini, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Benjamin Britten, Richard Strauss and Giuseppe Verdi.

Prior to MDC, Small was a fellow at the Virginia Symphony Orchestra from August of 2022 through May of 2023 and at the Eastern Music Festival from June of 2023 through July of 2023. He has performed with orchestras such as the Colour of Music Festival Orchestra, Miami Symphony Orchestra, South Florida Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Small earned an associate’s degree in music performance from MDC in 2011 and a bachelor’s degree in double bass performance from Florida International University in 2015. He then attained two master’s degrees in double bass performance from FIU and Temple University.
