The Reporter Selects New Social Media Director For 2025-26 School Year

Ivette Gomez, a political science major in the Honors College at North Campus, has been appointed as The Reporter’s social media director for the 2025-26 academic year.

She will create, edit and post content on the paper’s social media account on platforms including Instagram, X and TikTok.

“I want to allow students to get to know The Reporter through social media and for that interaction to not be so restrictive,” Gomez said. “We are a college newspaper and I think there is fun to that.”

The 18-year-old joined The Reporter last summer, beginning as a briefing and forum writer. This spring she was promoted to the news section, covering stories about immigration and a Miami Dade College student who was a finalist for NPR’s College Podcast Challenge.

Gomez hails from Nicaragua, where she graduated from Colegio Centro América in 2023. She is passionate about global affairs and aspires to work as an international lawyer and a diplomat.
