Ninette Portero, a mass communications and journalism major at Kendall Campus, was appointed as forum editor of The Reporter for the 2025-26 academic year.
She will oversee a team of more than 10 writers and illustrators in the forum section. Her duties include scheduling, writing and editing content weekly.
“I look forward to empowering our writers to grow and make their voices heard,” Portero said. “I think that’s the most important part of the job…not just having the spotlight, but giving the spotlight to others.”
The 19-year-old joined The Reporter in January as a briefing writer. Since then, she has expanded her writing footprint, producing a review on the movie I am Nevenka for the arts and entertainment section, a column on the new pope and news story about The Idea Center’s summer internships.
Portero, who hails from Havana, Cuba, moved to the United States in December 2018. She graduated from New World School of the Arts High School in 2024 and aspires to be an investigative journalist.
