12-Year-Old MDC Student Wins First At Chinese Speech And Skit Competition

Twelve-year old, Madison Conroy, won first place at Florida International University’s 6th Annual International Chinese Speech and Skit Competition on April 13th.

The child prodigy is currently a student in the Miami Dade College Confucius Institute and Language Center of Department of Continuing Education and Professional Development at the MDC Wolfson Campus.

Madison began receiving private Mandarin instruction at the CI’s Language Center last September and went through about a month of preparations for the speech and skit competition under Professor Wensheng Yang’s direction.

The competition was open to students ranging from elementary school to college with a total of nine schools being represented. Madison’s speech described her experiences with learning Chinese since she began at the age of four.
