Misogyny And Sexism In Rap Music
Every woman is taught about prince charming from a young age. From Cinderella to Snow White, they are taught to look for a man who will save them and treat them like a princess, but men never act like that. Well actually, they no longer act like a royal prince.
Men are much more sloppy now. Being polite to women is no longer the “cool” thing to do. Time and time again, I see men thinking it is better to treat their women badly because it supposedly makes them manlier. I blame this entirely on our current hip-hop artists.
Versus such as “B*tches ain’t sh*t but hoes and tricks” by Snoop Dogg show the misogyny in hip-hop lyrics. How are young men supposed to grow up respecting women if these types of song lyrics are considered awe-inspiring?
According to UnWomen.org, “In 1993, the UN General Assembly Declaration on the elimination of Violence against Women provided a framework for action on the pandemic, but more than 20 years later one in three women still experience physical sexual violence, mostly by an intimate partner.”
Even your own spouse thinks it is okay to disrespect you because their idol is singing how women are just part of the game. Men forget that without women there is nothing to be hyped about.
I rarely come across gentlemen. Instead I am talked down to as though I am some kind of animal. Men no longer want to come up to me and ask me out politely, but instead whisper explicit words. As though that’s supposed to make me attracted to them. Rappers such as Eminem and Kanye West make it seem as though that is what is needed to be done in order to have a girl fall head over heels in love with you.
Hip-hop makes it seem as though women are just sex objects. It’s playing the sexism card and just showing the stereotypes of both genders. Apparently, all women can do is shake their butts, but these male rappers seem to have forgotten who gave birth to them and who raised them.
Men need to grow up and realize that although these song lyrics and music videos may seem cool, it shouldn’t be your model for how you run your life. Treat women like a queen and she will make you a king.
