IAC-VOICES Encourages Hispanic Heritage Pride

InterAmerican Campus at Miami Dade College celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a new initiative called IAC-VOICES—What is your heritage? For the entire month of October, a giant chalkboard will be placed in Room 1217. On it, students will be able to write the answer to a daily question.

Questions will range from “Why is it important for the Latino community to vote?” and “Are you registered to vote?” The students are also encouraged to write down their thoughts and ideas about their cultural identity.

“We are hoping that the chalk wall sparks a conversation in its own right but that the impact is amplified through social media and the #IACVOICES,” said Karina Pavone, the chair of the School of Continuing Education at IAC. “We feel this type of simple project enhances the campus culture and is aligned with our campus strategic priorities.”

It all began last year when a giant chalkboard was created for students to share their thoughts and express themselves as well as to interact with their peers. Daniel Quijano, director of Student Life at InterAmerican Campus said the chalk wall has been a great success with students.
