Human Rights Alliance Raises Awareness Through Spoken Word

The Human Rights Alliance club (HRA) at Wolfson Campus will host Words For Freedom, a spoken word poetry night to raise awareness for human rights violations across the world, on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in Room 6100 at Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E 2nd Ave. At the event, students who auditioned in early November will perform.

The purpose of this event is to bring awareness to human rights violations taking place around the world and in this community,” said co-president of the club, Kiana Vidal. “Many times we feel that the causes we are fighting for oftentimes leave people feeling sad and helpless. We don’t think education on these topics should be a negative experience. We believe that through the arts, advocacy can become a beautiful thing.”

Starting Nov. 21 tickets are on presale for $5 to Miami Dade College students. For the general public, the presale price is $7. All tickets will be sold at the door for $10 the day of the show and attendees can park in the campus’ parking garage for free.
