Twin Opera Classics At The Tower Theater

Miami Dade College’s Tower Theater, located at 1508 S.W. 8th St., will present Italian twin classic verismo operas Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci on Feb. 2 at 8 p.m.

First performed in 1888, Cavalleria Rusticana was adapted from a short story by Giovanni Verga. The opera was composed by Pietro Mascagni and has been recreated more than 700 times in world renowned stages since then. The success of Mascagni’s work led Ruggero Leoncavallo to compose Pagliacci five years later, based on the true story of a murder. Pagliacci debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in Manhattan, New York in a joint performance with Cavalleria Rusticana.

Shows are open to all students, staff and the general public. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $13.50 for MDC students and staff as well as senior citizens.
