A Revolutionary Thriller Reminiscent Of Red Dawn

Americans have a genetic coding for rebellions; we love it.

Fighting for your land is still fresh in our hearts since this country is still so young. 1984’s Red Dawn modernized it with high-school teenagers fighting for their hometown and its remake seems to do the same.

However, not all countries are created in that manner. Foreign countries have different beginnings and positions in this modern world. Australia is one of those countries, so it’s interesting when they make a movie about guerrilla warfare and rebels in almost the same manner as Red Dawn while still being so unique.

Tomorrow, When The War Began is what Red Dawn was missing. There’s no Thor or Patrick Swayze leading a group of eight high-schoolers. Instead we have Ellie (Caitlin Stasey) at the helm, a teenage girl.

In this movie, the kids go camping in the woods and therefore were not present during the invasion. This gives us time to get to know these characters instead of having the war thrown at us within the first minute, and that’s the strength of this movie.

Tomorrow, When The War Began doesn’t rush through the psychological conversion of kid to soldier, so the drama is more intense.

Each kid represents a different kind of character from high school (the bad boy, the religious type, etc.) without being a stereotype. When they become freedom fighters, it feels like every other kid can to.

I’m not saying one is better than the other, but I am saying you should give this one a look before the new Red Dawn. If you wanted more drama instead of just another war movie, this is one to look at.
