André Lepecki To Give Lecture At MDC MOAD
Miami Dade College’s Museum of Art and Design will present In The Event of Encounter (or The Improbable Living Together) by André Lepecki from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 7 at the second floor of the Freedom Tower, 600 Biscayne Blvd.
Lepecki, a professor and chairperson for performance studies at New York University, will lecture about how experimental performances and visual artists from the 1970s and onwards have tried to answer the question: how to live together?
“I am taking inspiration from a book of the same title by the French theorist Roland Barthes, and will be looking both into what Barthes had to say about this problem, as well as to some art works by different artists such as the Brazilian Hélio Oiticica, the American Ralph Lemon and Julie Tolentino and the Colombian Maria José Arjona,” Lepecki said.
The lecture is under the museum’s Living Together Series, which focuses on performances and films centered on social and cultural issues.
Admission is free. Attendees must RSVP at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3200344
