Gregory Castillo, an award-winning photographer and an original member of The Reporter, has been hired as a full-time multimedia producer at the Dallas Museum of Art.

His first day on the job was June 8.

Castillo, 23, will serve as a photographer and videographer, creating marketing campaigns, conducting artist interviews and chronicling the daily activities at the DMA.

“It’s exciting,” Castillo said about his new venture. “The pace is completely different but I have an opportunity to help expose my generation to art through what I know how to do best: take photographs and shoot videos.”

Castillo sharpened his multimedia skills at various internships during the past few years. He has interned at the Miami Herald as a producer on the Continuous News Desk, as a photographer, and as a multimedia intern at WLRN.

He interned twice at The Dallas Morning News. In the summer of 2014, Castillo worked on the paper’s news desk, serving as a reporter, photographer and videographer; for the past three months, he interned in the photo department at the Texas-based publication.

As a senior photographer with The Reporter, Castillo won first-place in Sports Photography from the Associated Collegiate Press in October of 2013. In addition, he won eight first-place honors from the Florida College System Publications Association in topics such as: News Story, Feature Story, News Photo and Sports Photo.

“The skills I acquired at The Reporter prepared me for whatever challenge,” Castillo said.
