Confucius Institute Wins Award

The Confucius Institute (CI) at Miami Dade College won the 2015 Confucius Institute of the Year award on Jan. 12 at the 10th annual Global Confucius Institute Conference in Shanghai, China.

“We are thrilled by this award as a milestone for the CI at MDC,” said Dr. Xuejun (Jim) Yu, Director of Confucius Institute and China Initiatives at MDC. “It provides a great momentum for our future growth, as we are opening doors for our students with multilingual and multicultural skills for future success.”

The Confucius Institute is a non-profit public educational organization affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. The Institute’s main goal is to promote Chinese culture and language locally and internationally. As of 2014, there are more than 480 Institutes in all six continents. In the U.S. there are 60 CIs.

The Confucius Institute at MDC was recognized for its more than five-years of quality Chinese language and culture programming as well as outreach efforts at MDC and the South Florida community. Only five other CIs in the United States have received this prestigious award from the conference.
