Dean Of Student Services Office At North Campus Moves Into New Home
The Dean of Student Services Office at North Campus relocated to a renovated space—Room 1323—in the first week of June to better assist students.
Upgrades to the 1,764 square feet suite—nearly double the size of the previous space—include new furniture, modern lighting, bigger offices, laminate flooring, and a larger lobby area.
“I am very grateful,” said Denise Alvarez, secretary III at the Dean of Student Services Office. “It has allowed our team, as a whole, to create a well-designed space to better serve students.”
The space, which houses the dean of students, the assistant dean and support staff, is located at the entrance of the executive office wing on the third floor of the 1000 building. Renovations cost $87,000.
Students can visit the office to resolve academic and personal issues and the space connects scholars to other student service departments like the Office of Veterans & Military Services, Single Stop and ACCESS (A Comprehensive Center for Exceptional Student Services).
During the next month, the department will continue decorating the suite’s walls. They are hoping to include Miami Dade College stickers and artwork. The facelift will also feature LED TVs in the conference room and waiting area.
According to the Campus President’s office, this is the first time the Dean of Student Services Office has moved since North Campus’ was built in the 1960s. The previous space was only a few feet away from the current location but it was tucked away from the executive floor’s entrance and was far more cramped.
Discussions to start the project began in the fall of 2020 after it became increasingly difficult to social distance and effectively communicate with students and staff in the previous suite. Plans for the construction were finalized at the end of 2021.
“We’re excited about our new area,” said Georgette Perez, the North Campus Dean Of Student Services. “We welcome everyone to stop by and say hello.”
Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can reach the office at (305) 237-1053.
