Documentary On Cuban Pioneer At Hialeah Campus
Hialeah Campus, 1780 W. 49 St., will screen Emilia, a documentary that explores the life of Emilia Teurbe Tolón, who sewed the first Cuban flag in 1850. The film will show at noon on Oct. 28 in Room 5101.
Tolón is regarded as a pioneer in liberating Cuba from Spanish rule in 1898.
Luis Perez Tolón, director and descendant of Emilia Teurbe Tolón, presents the struggles many Cuban-Americans face and the country’s history of deportation and family separation.
The director will be present at the screening and host a Q&A session afterwards.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is hosted by the School of Continuing Education and Professional Development at Hialeah Campus.
