Grants Benefit Students In Many Ways
There is nothing better than knowing that you can get recognition for your hard work at school. Grants offer the opportunity for students to get that recognition, as well as funding that does not need to be paid back.
If you are in college or are planning to enroll, grants are something that you should consider to apply for. They may not be a scholarship and might not cover the entire cost of your tuition, but they will definitely help you cover a part of your expenses.
As an international student, I’ve received grants as recognition of my work for the college newspaper and other activities out of class. You can receive them no matter what your immigrant status is and they can even be offered to you by professors or advisors around your college. I would say that this is what I like most about grants.
Grants are a way of showing that resilience pays off, and a way of showing you that you are on the right track and that persistence and perseverance will help you reach your goals.
For other students, grants can be offered and obtained for projects, supplies, materials, and even field trips. I met a group of students last semester who were working on implementing a vertical garden on campus and received a grant to get some of the materials and equipment needed to come up with the final product. This shows how much grants can help students and professors make the college experience more dynamic and rewarding.
For low-income students, the Pell grant is an important factor that helps them to keep pursuing higher education. It covers part of their expenses, but it also helps them to be motivated and stay enrolled in classes while at the same time making it easier for them to have access to some of the supplies needed for classes. According to the Pell Institute, the grant has helped more than 60 million students pursue higher education since its initiation, and it estimates that 60% of African American and 50% of Hispanic undergraduates benefit from the Pell grant.
