Gruesome Attack Leaves Man Faceless And Miami With Another Black Eye
It’ll be awhile until Miami forgets about the causeway cannibal.
With Urban Beach Weekend 2012 in full swing, citizens and police were more than worried for whatever violence the estimated 250,000 people gathered on South Beach could bring. However, no one could guess what Rudy Eugene would do; a naked man speculated by some to be high off bath salts running around the city with an extreme case of cannibal munchies.
Truly a sad story for his victim Ronald Poppo, a homeless man believed to be dead for thirty years by his family in New York. It’s reported that more than 70% of his face is gone and I would recommend you don’t Google Ronald Poppo’s face for it is something you will never be able to unsee. Jackson Memorial Hospital has set up a fund for Poppo’s reconstructive surgeries. He will certainly have to endure surgeries for a few years.
The case was so grotesque the media didn’t even know how to report it and the story blew up over the Internet as a zombie attack or Apocalypse.
Even by Miami’s standards the cannibal attack is gruesome and perverse and the details make it impossible not to sensationalize. Sure, people will step forward and defend both Poppo and Eugene’s past but there is no going back from a story like this especially when it overshadows the Miami Heat playoff run.
Other stories of cannibalism have surfaced such as Vince Li who stabbed, beheaded and cannibalized a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus in Canada in March. As well as the manhunt for Luka Magnotta, a bisexual porn star, who is accused of dismembering another man and mailing his severed limbs to Canadian political offices.
If it was really drugs that turned Eugene into a flesh-fiend then I’d worry about who else his dealer sold the stuff too. And if it’s truly a Zombie Apocalypse then It’s time to grab grandpappy’s shotgun out of the closet and rest it on a box of buckshot next to your bed.
