Highly-Recruited Sharks’ Forward Commits To Florida International University

Victor Hart, a six-foot-seven-inch forward who received seven Division I scholarship offers, announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he has committed to play basketball at Florida International University next season. 

After averaging 16.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in the 2019-20 season at Miami Dade College, Hart received offers from the University of Florida, Austin Peay State University, Florida Gulf Coast University, the University of Buffalo, Chicago State University, East Carolina University and FIU—which offered on Aug. 10.

As a freshman, Hart led the Sharks in points (431), rebounds (241) and blocks (30), and was second in steals (41). He also scored double digits in 24 out of 26 games and posted 11 double-doubles during the season.

The forward was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Region VIII All-State Team and First-Team All-Southern Conference. 

Through 12 games this season, Hart is averaging 11.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, including a season-high 22 points and 14 rebounds during the Sharks’ 85-80 loss against Daytona State College on Jan 31.

Jose Tovar

Jose Tovar, 20, is a mass communications/ journalism major at Kendall Campus. Tovar, who obtained his GED in August of 2017—two months after arriving in Miami from Venezuela—will serve as sports editor for The Reporter during the 2020-2021 school year. He aspires to be a sports journalist or sportscaster at ESPN.
