Jazz At Wolfson Presents To Feature Wolfson Jazz Ensembles
The Wolfson Jazz Ensembles will be showcased at the Jazz At Wolfson Presents series on March 12 at 300 N.E. Second Ave, Room 1261, at 5:40 p.m.
They will perform modern and traditional jazz pieces from the Great American Songbook.
“I’ve had wonderful students that have made really great improvement, especially since some of the music is really difficult,” said Mark Small, director of jazz studies at Wolfson Campus. “They’re all putting in a lot of really good work, so I’m really pleased with the progress.”
The Wolfson Jazz Ensembles consist of three groups of students.
The Horace Silver Group bases its name on the pianist and composer who rose to prominence in the 1950s and 60s for pioneering the hard bop genre.
Inspired by the world-renowned jazz record label, the Blue Note Group traces the evolution of jazz from early jazz through bebop, hard bop, post-bop, soul jazz and avant-garde styles.
The program’s most established group—the Hard Bop Jazz Ensemble—has performed in Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands. They incorporate elements of rhythm, blues and gospel into their music.
All Jazz At Wolfson Presents events are free and open to the public.
