Kendall Campus Prepares To Perform Award-Winning Play, God Of Carnage
Written by Yasmina Reza, God of Carnage is a dark comedy with acidly sharp wit filled with adult themes and language. Written originally in French, the play has also seen success on Broadway in 2009 – 2010 and in film with director Roman Polanski in 2011, the title was shortened to Carnage.
If one is valiant enough to brave the traffic down to Kendall Campus, one will find hidden away in the M building an intimately small play house for theater lovers to gather around the stage to enjoy the hard work of students.
Kendall Theatre Program Coordinator, Deborah Mello serves as producer. Directing the production is professor Brad Beckman, who this year has chosen to bring God of Carnage to the stage once more.
God of Carnage opens with the parents of two children meeting in one of their homes to discuss the previous events that happened while the children played at the park. A fight had occurred (details are spared for fear of spoilers) and over the course of the evening it goes from an amicable night to juvenile chaos between the parents. Many of the arguments throughout the play spring forth from quick judgments from both parties and everything gets dragged out into the open causing all the hilarious conflict.
Only four actors make up the cast; Cindy Mesa as Annette, Daniel Martinez as Michael, Alejandra Curtis as Veronica and Othon Cardelle as Alan. Assistant stage manager and student Larissa Gonzalez, helps prep during the night practices along with stage manager/student, Allyson Fernandez.
The play relies heavily on in-the-moment acting. Natural movements and reactions are needed as the show focuses on these set of actors playing parents.
For those interested in spending a wonderful evening at the theater, God of Carnage opens on Thursday, Feb. 19 until 22 then will continue Feb. 26 and wrap up on March 1.
The shows will take place from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. with the exception of the shows playing the 22 and March 1; which will start at 2 p.m.
All performances will be held at Kendall Campus, 11011 SW 104 St. in Room M113.
