LEGO Bricks Bring Nature Exhibit At Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden To Life
An exhibition featuring 30 nature-themed sculptures created with more than 700,000 LEGO bricks on an 83-acre garden in Coral Gables is connecting its audiences with the environment.
The colorful artwork includes a Monarch butterfly with an eight-foot wingspan, a seven-foot wide peacock and a five-foot-tall corn spider. All of those exhibits needed more than 60,000 LEGO bricks each to create the final product.
Other sculptures include snails, foxes, deer and cardinals.
You can catch a glimpse of them through Aug. 28 at Nature Connects at Miami Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Rd.
“It has brought in a crowd to the garden,” said Carl E. Lewis, the director at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. “Nature Connects is an opportunity to take a fresh look [at] Fairchild’s nature by mixing in creative works of art.”
The presentation was created by New York-based artist Sean Kenney. It has been featured in botanical gardens, science centers and zoos in countries such as Canada, Australia and China since 2012.
In addition to seeing Instagram-worthy sculptures, guests can also participate in interactive activities such as scavenger hunts, building competitions and witness exotic butterflies and a cloud forest.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to create their own masterpiece using the hundreds of giant building bricks scattered throughout the garden.
Nature Connects is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..
Ticket prices range from $11.95 for children to $24.95 for adults. Students who present a student ID will get a discounted ticket for $15.95.
