Little Havana Historical Theater Offers A Unique Experience For Movie Lovers

The Tower Theater, which first opened its doors in 1926, is home to one of Miami’s greatest treasures, at least to film lovers. In 2002, Miami Dade College took control of the theater. It has remained a cultural mecca for film aficionados, offering an intimate and relatively inexpensive—$9 tickets for MDC students, staff, faculty and seniors—setting to watch movies from all across the world. The Nile Hilton Incident

An exclusive film to the Tower Theater, The Nile Hilton Incident is a tense political thriller, based on real world events. Taking place weeks before the 2011 Egyptian revolution, the film is a look at crime, patriotism and how the corruption of a country’s government can change the life of a single citizen. For fans of films like Argo or The Manchurian Candidate, this is one that should not be missed.

Woodpeckers

To some, intimacy is a prison, constricting even the most hardened souls out there. To some, they have to find that intimacy in an actual prison. In this feature from the Dominican Republic’s José María Cabral, two lovers forge a love across two prison yards. It’s an unconventional, yet interesting take on a romantic film.  

The Unknown Girl

A French film from the Dardenne brothers (Two Days, One Night), this mystery film tells the story of a death by an unknown cause. Now, a young doctor who feels responsible for the death, goes on a journey to discover the woman’s past and cause of death.
