Man Accused Of Threatening Dispatchers With Pocket Knife At Wolfson Campus
City of Miami Police are looking for a man accused of brandishing a pocket knife at public safety dispatchers at Wolfson Campus on July 13, according to a crime alert distributed by Miami Dade College.
The incident happened at around 9:45 a.m. in front of the public safety window in building 1, according to the campus crime log. No injuries were reported.
This is what College officials say happened:
The man, who is not believed to be affiliated with MDC, was using a restroom on the first floor of building 1 when a fire alarm forced the evacuation of the structure.
At the conclusion of the incident, the man told public safety officials that he left his phone in the restroom and it was either lost or stolen during the evacuation. The man then became irritated, waved a pocket knife and demanded action.
“It’s believed he used it as a threat to compel public safety officials to help look for his phone,” said Juan Mendieta, the school’s director of communications.
When City of Miami Police arrived at the scene, the man had already left the premises. College officials provided police with video footage that was captured on a surveillance camera.
The suspect is described as a 20 to 29-year-old Black male with a slim build who is believed to be 5-foot-7-inches tall and 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black tank top, blue shorts and eyeglasses.
Anyone with information about the incident can call the Miami Police Department at (305) 603-6640 or the Wolfson Campus public safety department at 305-237-3100.
