MDC Selects Assistant Vice President Of Communications
Dominique “Nikki” Whiting was appointed assistant vice president of communications at Miami Dade College on July 8.
Whiting will work alongside Travis Jordan, vice president of marketing and communications, supervising MDC’s public relations, social media engagement and English and Spanish media. She will serve as the school’s primary spokesperson.
“It’s special that we call Miami Dade College Democracy’s college, because despite your circumstances you could come through these doors and get a high quality education without spending a lot of money,” Whiting said. “I want to keep telling that piece of Miami Dade College’s story.”
Prior to MDC, she served as deputy director of communications for Governor Ron DeSantis in Tallahassee from June 2023 through April 2024. Before that, she was the director of communications for the Florida Department of Health, where she worked on health crises communication strategies for six months.
Whiting served as senior advisor to Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez from 2021 through 2023 and as director of communications for the office of former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban L.“Steve” Bovo, who is currently the mayor of Hialeah, from January of 2019 through December of 2020.
The 31-year-old began her career in public service as a legislative assistant and press secretary to former United States House of Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen from 2016 through 2017.
Whiting, a Miamian with Cuban and Italian roots, graduated from MDC with an associate’s degree in English in 2013 and from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in English and history in 2016. Four years later, she obtained a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Miami.
