MDC-TV Awarded Its 11th Silver Davey Award
Miami Dade College’s television station, MDC-TV, won its 11th Silver Davey Award in the entertainment category for its Video Game Concert 2023.
The Davey Awards is an annual international competition that celebrates creative work from outstanding small agencies. It is judged by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts, a team of acclaimed professionals in the visual arts industry.
“I’m so happy. It’s like I got a million dollars,” said Ariel Rubalcava, MDC-TV’s executive director. “There’s more companies who want to get the Davey, but we’re still getting it, so I’m very happy.”
The Video Game Concert 2023 is an orchestral production conducted by Alberto Bade, an adjunct professor at North Campus and the director of the MDC Symphony Orchestra. It featured Bade’s students performing variations of soundtracks from popular video games such as Super Mario, Skyrim and Final Fantasy.
This is the 6th year MDC-TV has produced a video game concert since 2015. Due to its recent success, the station plans to make it an annual event at North Campus.
The winning team included Rubalcava, executive producer Barry Gordon, technical director Alfonso Kohn, audio engineer Philip Colodetti and video engineer Richard De La Vega.
