My Journey To Success At MDC

I remember during my senior year of high school, going to Miami Dade College was seen as the last resort for the academically challenged. As a result, many students—including myself at the time—perceived MDC in a negative way. 

Was MDC an effective institution? Or did it possess maladaptive qualities that could not properly cultivate a well-rounded individual?

To effectively answer these questions, I reflected on my journey here.

From the very first day, I can honestly say that I received support. I began taking classes at MDC in the fall semester of 2018. I didn’t know what to expect, but the classes were indeed challenging at times. In these courses, I was given the opportunity to improve my writing, develop mathematical and critical thinking skills and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of human development and human nature. 

I can truly say that Dade provided me with a quality education and professors who demonstrated a lot of passion in their curriculum.

Another amazing aspect of MDC is the academic advising and TRIO office. I can truly say that the staff in both these offices have made the journey so much easier. They have become like a family to me. Thankfully, my academic plan was put together the same semester that I would be starting, which allowed me to stay on track throughout my attendance.

I’m also grateful for the various resources available to me such as professors’ office hours, tutoring opportunities, clubs and scholarships. I am thankful for everyone who willingly offered themselves to make the most of my educational experience.

Ultimately, I have enjoyed my time at MDC, and I am grateful that my path led me here. It has effectively prepared me for my next journey, and I’m excited to see the new opportunities that come my way.

Conclusively, for everyone who believes MDC is beneath them, it may be because the College humbly starts off simple, in order to help us climb higher and succeed. Dade continues to fend for their students, providing them with the tools needed to be successful. These tools are what led me to conclude that MDC is an educational haven that caters to all students. Therefore, if you’re looking for somewhere to start your journey, maybe MDC has what you’re looking for.
