North Campus Appoints New Chair Of Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science Department
Andreina Aguado Jimenez was selected as the interim chair of the chemistry, physics and earth sciences department at North Campus.
She began her role on Sept. 11.
Jimenez’s duties include overseeing each department, ensuring courses run smoothly, addressing faculty and student concerns and coordinating faculty course schedules.
“Instead of just helping my students that I have direct contact with, I feel like I expanded my pool, and now I get to help other faculty help their students,” Jimenez said.
The 39-year-old began working at Miami Dade College in 2012 as an adjunct professor in the chemistry department. She was promoted to full-time faculty in 2013, serving as an assistant professor for five years, an associate professor for three years and as an associate professor senior for two years.
Jimenez graduated with an associate’s degree from MDC in 2005. Though originally on a pre-dental track, she switched gears to chemistry at Barry University after participating in a research project that experimented with synthesized organic molecules to potentially cure Alzheimer’s disease.
Jimenez graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in chemistry from Barry University in 2007 and with a PhD in chemistry from the University of Miami five years later.
