North Campus To Host Virtual Discussion About All Souls Day
North Campus will host All Souls Day in Mexico, a discussion about the holiday’s celebration in Spanish and Mexican cultures. It will be hosted on Microsoft Teams Oct. 30 from 11:10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.
The event will highlight the significance of All Souls Day from a religious and traditional perspective, and describe how two distinct cultures came together for the celebration.
“Although All Souls Day is observed in other Spanish-speaking countries, the celebration in Mexico is different because this modern-day remembrance evolved from a religious syncretism in which the beliefs and traditions of two cultures, the indigenous and the Spanish, are fused together,” said English professor Myra Medina.
Guest speakers for the two-part event include Consul General of Mexico Jonathan Chait Auerbach, who will discuss Spain’s importance in Mexican culture, and North Campus professors Myra Medina and Leon Palombo, who will discuss how All Souls Day is celebrated in Mexico.
The event is free and open to the general public.
