Open Tryout For Men’s Basketball Team On Sept. 10

The Miami Dade College men’s basketball team will be holding an open tryout for any students interested in joining this year’s squad.

Head coach Stephen Cowherd said Miami Dade College students who will be enrolled full-time for the fall and spring semesters and are dedicated to academics and basketball are encouraged to tryout.

The tryout will be held Sept. 10 from 7:15-8:30 p.m at the Theodore. R. Gibson Health Center at Kendall Campus, 11011 S.W. 104 St.

Any students interested in trying out must bring a copy of their schedule for the fall term, had a physical in the past year and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.

During last year’s tryout, 75 students came out to the gym to compete for a spot on the team.  Cowherd said he expects a larger turnout this year.

Cowherd is looking for specific qualities in his players.

“[I’m] looking for students who are gonna play hard, understand their role, be good teammates, have a good attitude and be coachable,” Cowherd said.

With the team already having 12 scholarship players, Cowherd is only looking for two to three walk-ons.
