Photography Professor Given Excellence In Teaching Award
Kendall Campus photography professor, Antonio Chirinos, won the Excellence in Teaching Award from CENTER, a non-profit that supports photographers around the country.
Chirinos, who has worked at Miami Dade College since 2003, received the award in August. He will receive a $4,000 prize and admission to the Review Santa Fe Photo Festival in Santa Fe on Oct. 17.
“I’m overwhelmed by knowing that I have touched so many lives,” Chirinos said. “Not only in photography, but a lot of [students] also indicated that their lives were touched by my class.”
The award recognizes high school, college and postgraduate professors that teach photography around the country. Winners are nominated by students.
Chirinos earned a bachelor’s in photography from Florida International University in 2001, and a master’s in photography from Columbia University in 2003. He worked as director of biomedical photography at the then Miami Children’s Hospital before MDC.
