Photography Professor Presents Visual Memoir At Leica Store Miami

Kendall Campus photography professor Tony ChirinosVisual Memoir, a collection of 25 black and white photographs, is being featured at Leica Store Miami, 372 Miracle Mile, through Sept. 20.

The exhibition highlights people and places from Chirinos’ travels throughout Miami, Spain, Greece, Germany, Austria and Norway between 1983 and 2017.

It is free and open to the public. The store is open, Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“What I’m hoping is that [people] can see there’s something strange in each picture,” Chirinos said. “I hope they spend some time with the work and not just glance at it like they do on Instagram, but rather take [their] time… and see what is the strangeness about the world that I’m photographing.”

Chirinos has been teaching photography and art appreciation at Miami Dade College since 2003. Prior to MDC, he served as the director of biomedical photography at Baptist Hospital of Miami from May of 1989 to June of 2001.

The 58-year-old earned an associate’s degree in photography from MDC in 1995 and a bachelor’s degree in photography from Florida International University in 2001. Two years later, he obtained a master’s degree in photography from Columbia University.
