Reporter Alumnus Lands Internship With The Daily Beast
Corbin Bolies, who served as A&E Editor of The Reporter, has been selected for a virtual summer internship with The Daily Beast. The New York-based news publication is focused on politics, media and pop culture.
Bolies, 22, began his position on June 1. As a breaking news intern, he presents stories written from a local perspective to a national audience.
“It’s something that I didn’t see coming,” Bolies said. “I always enjoyed reading The Daily Beast so it’s pretty fun to get to be a part of it.”
Bolies started with The Reporter as a news writer in fall of 2017. By the 2018-19 school year, he was promoted to lead the paper’s A/E staff, a role he held through December of 2019. Bolies’ most prominent role with the paper was assisting with coverage of Miami Dade College’s presidential search
In January, he won a first-place award from the Florida College System Publications Association for in-depth reporting related to a story that centered on the cost of hiring a new college president. He co-bylined that article with Heidi Perez-Moreno, who is interning at the Texas Tribune this summer.
Bolies also won second place in arts review from the FCSPA for his analysis of the Netflix movie, Marriage Story, and third place in the news story category after Eduardo J. Padrón stepped down as MDC’s president after nearly 25 years in that role.
He graduated from Wolfson Campus in the summer of 2020 with an associate’s degree. Bolies, who is currently majoring in journalism at the University of Florida, has written for The Alligator, WUFT News and The Gainesville Sun.
