The Frustrating Job Search That Never Ends In Me Being Hired
For nearly three years, every job that I’ve applied to has repeated the line “we will call you” after an interview. But not once have I heard back from them. Not even to be rejected.
I’m sick and tired of their silence.
It all began in May of 2019 when I went to TJ Maxx for an interview. I believe the interview went well. I remained calm throughout the whole process and answered every question to the best of my ability.
“We will call you,” the interviewer said.
Since I didn’t hear from them, I applied to work at Marshalls thinking the experience would be different.
At first, it seemed so. I was able to schedule and attend an interview. However, despite my calm and relaxed composure, the interviewer said, “we will call you.”
They never called back.
During my senior year, I continued applying at other stores. Like in the past, they offered to call back only to never do so. That frustrated me and led me to drop my search to focus on my education.
After graduating from North Miami Beach Senior High School in 2020, I began searching for a summer job. I applied at Old Navy, Walmart, Aldi, GameStop and Home Depot. Again, I didn’t hear back from a single place.
With my sister’s help, I was finally able to get a job at Pollo Tropical in 2021. That news filled me with happiness.
Sadly, that joy didn’t last long. Due to an unforeseen family emergency, I had to quit soon after.
This year I have tried to seek job opportunities once again. I applied to work at Express, H&M and Ross. Neither of them have gotten back to me. H&M hasn’t even sent me a message or an email regarding my application.
If they don’t want to hire me, that is okay. But I at least deserve to get a call regarding my application.
