Visiting The Heart Of Europe
I recently attended the Salzburg Global Seminar hosted by the Global Citizenship Alliance in Austria. It was from Feb. 22 to March 5.
The seminar, sponsored by The Honors College at Miami Dade College, delved into the concept of global citizenship and challenges affecting the global community. During the program, we explored ways to create a more just and sustainable future.
Several sessions, including The United States of America & The World: Views From a Distance, taught by Austrian Historian Reinhold Wagnleitner, provided us with an outsider’s perspective of the role the United States plays in global politics.
The discussion also shed light on the multifaceted relationships between nations and how global events impact people around the world.
One of the most moving moments during our trip was when we visited the Dachau Concentration Camp in Southern Germany. At the site, we paid tribute to the thousands who died under the grip of fascism.
Walking through Dachau was a stark reminder of the consequences of hatred and intolerance, prompting me to rekindle the need to emphasize understanding and compassion.
The experience allowed me to gain insight, connections and experiences that will drive me to create a better world.
