Astrology goes back to when ancient Babylonians created the zodiac by dividing the sky into 12 sections. Each section corresponded to a time of year when they were seen. 

Your birth chart, also called horoscope and natal birth chart, represents how the constellations were positioned at the time you were born.

The astrological signs are: Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn. Each sign has its own ruling element, planet and modality.

The elements—fire, water, air and earth—help explain a person’s connection with others and nature. To find out one’s strengths, weaknesses and energy storage people look at the sun and moon, the two luminaries and the eight planets. The modalities (Cardinal, Mutable and Fixed) help predict how a sign behaves.

Those born between April 20 and May 19 are Taurus represented by a bull and are known for being stubborn. Their ruling planet is Venus and they are part of the earth element. As a fixed sign, they are said to be reliable and patient, needing to be surrounded by love and beauty.

Geminis are born between May 20 and June 20. They are ruled by Mercury and have air as their element. As a mutable sign, they are affectionate and constantly seek new adventures.

Cancers are born between June 21 and July 22 and are ruled by the Moon and water is their element. They are said to be loyal, harmonious and always seeking peace.

Between July 23 and Aug. 22 are Leos, who are known to have a confident personality because they are ruled by the sun and have the element of fire. They are creative, passionate and are constantly trying to grow their egos.

Virgos are born between Aug. 23 and Sept. 22 and are known to be analytical. They are ruled by Mercury and have the earth element. Virgos are kind, hard-working and seek order.

Known for their peaceful personalities, Libras are born between Sept. 23 and Oct. 22. They are ruled by Venus and have the air element. Libras are said to seek balance, justice and to be cooperative.

Scorpios are born between Oct. 23 and Nov. 21. They are known to be mysterious, are ruled by Pluto and have the water element. They are resourceful and seek trust and intimacy.

Sagittarius have an independent personality. They are born between Nov. 22 and Dec. 21 and are ruled by Jupiter and have the fire element. Sagittarius are humorous and like to travel.

Capricorns are represented by the Sea-Goat. They are ruled by Saturn and have the element of earth because they are born between Dec. 22 and Jan. 19. Capricorns tend to be responsible, independent and realistic.

Aquarius are known to have a unique personality and are ruled by Uranus and the air element. They are born between Jan. 20 and Feb. 18. Aquariuses are said to be intellectual, eccentric and constantly seeking liberty.

Pisces are born between Feb. 19 and March 19 and are ruled by Neptune and have the water element. Pisces are characterized for being compassionate, artistic and romantic. 

Aries are born between March 20 and April 19. They fall under the element of fire, cardinal modality and are ruled by Mars. They have a lot of energy, are known to be protective, outgoing and are natural-born leaders.
