Winter Wonderland Celebration Returns To North Campus On Dec. 10

The holiday spirit is back at North Campus. Children’s Holiday at North, in its 16th year, will be held on Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It will feature Mr. and Mrs. Claus, a parade, arts and crafts and live performances.

Activities will take place at 11380 N.W. 27th Avenue in the grassy area adjacent to the 4000 building. The celebration welcomed more than 10,000 visitors last year.

“This is definitely a key signature event at the North Campus,” said campus President Fermin Vazquez. “You see so many smiles, so many happy families just enjoying the festivities of the holiday season.”

Santa Claus will arrive at the event via helicopter at 10 a.m. He and Mrs. Claus will be taken by a horse-drawn carriage to participate in a 15-minute-long parade showcasing Disney Characters, toy soldiers, marching bands and Santa’s little helpers.

After the parade, attendees will have the opportunity to take pictures with Santa while Mrs. Claus, accompanied by her elves, will read children’s books.

Children will also have an opportunity to visit Santa’s Workshop in building 4000 to write a letter to St. Nick and create holiday-themed arts and crafts. They will also meet their favorite characters such as Cinderella and Snow White to make crowns and wands at the Princesses’ and Princes’ tents.

Exhibitions at the event will include three different stunt dog shows and a petting zoo that showcases animals like goats and rabbits that visitors can feed.

Another tent will feature Elsie’s Greenshop—a workshop that allows attendees to create slime, plant herbs and try liquid nitrogen food. The STEM Interactive LEGO tent will let children create small Lego sets that they get to keep.

The Holidays Around The World Center exhibit will showcase arts and crafts stations representing the four end-of-year holidays across the world—Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali and Kwanzaa.

Private street vendors will sell hamburgers, kettle corn, frozen lemonade and Slurpees. In addition, there will be a hot dog stand. Proceeds from the hot dog stand will be donated to the United Way.

This year, there will also be an artificial intelligence tent featuring the College’s Robotics Club. It will showcase robots and 3D printers that will create holiday-themed key chains for guests.

Live performances will take place in the 4000 building breezeway from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Scheduled performers include: The John A. Ferguson Pan Life Steel Drum Band, the Polynesian dance company Aloha Islanders and Hip Hop Kidz.

“This is an event to give back,” said Jesenia Patino, co-chair of the Children’s Holiday at North committee. “We are excited and looking forward to having the community here on campus.”
