SAS Student Accepted Into Several Top Universities

Romeo Umana, an 18-year-old School for Advanced Studies high school and a Miami Dade College student, was accepted into three Ivy League colleges, plus two other top-notch universities.

Umana was accepted into Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford and MIT, all of which are offering him a full-ride scholarship.

After visiting most of the schools, Umana decided to attend Stanford for the upcoming fall semester. Umana said Stanford not only has a great program for his intended major, computer science, but he thought the campus was beautiful.

“It was the campus that felt like home,” Umana said. “I couldn’t really express it in words.”

Umana will be the first in his family to attend college. When his mother heard the news, Umana said, she was extremely excited for her son.

“It’s really a blessing,” Umana said. “It’s an opportunity that no one in my family has ever had, and I’m never going to have to worry about affording education. It’s just a huge blessing.”
